Introduction

Welcome to the website of the Advisory Council on Latin American and Iberian Information Resources - ACLAIIR. This home page provides a brief introduction to the aims and activities of the Council. For further information, please contact any of the officers listed below.

Aims

The aim of the Advisory Council on Latin American and Iberian Information Resources (ACLAIIR) is to advance education in its two fields of interest (Latin America and Iberia), in particular by:

1.      Acting as a focus for Latin American and Iberian studies in libraries of all kinds;

2.      Providing information on libraries' holdings in the Council's fields of interest;

3.      Acting as a forum for discussion between librarians and users of Latin American and Iberian materials;

4.      Examining possibilities of cooperation between libraries and individuals or bodies concerned with such materials.

Latin American and Iberia are defined as follows:

Latin America:

all countries south of the Río Grande plus the reasonably adjacent islands, including the islands of the Caribbean, regardless of language.

Iberia:

all parts of the Iberian peninsula, including the reasonably adjacent islands, regardless of language.

ACLAIIR also collaborates with other Latin American interest groups such as:

·  SLAS - The Society for Latin American Studies

·  SALALM - Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials

·  REDIAL - Red Europea de Información y Documentación sobre América Latina

and with other groups interested in information provision such as the

·  French Studies Library Group

·  German Studies Library Group

·  Italian Studies Library Group.
