The Provisional Census represents the first stage of a proposed union catalogue of current Latin American newspapers held in libraries in the UK.  At present it includes the holdings of the British Library and ACLAIIR libraries.

 

It covers unbroken runs of issues of five or more years since 1970.  Isolated issues have been omitted.  Holdings earlier than 1970 are noted when they extend beyond 1970.

Holdings information

 

The numerical and chronological designation varies somewhat in format according to the information provided by the contributing library.  So far it has been possible to standardize the information only to a very limited extent.

 

For newspapers the preferred form is: dd/mm/yy.

NB: 

11/1966-11/1995 = 1 November 196630 November 1995, i.e. a complete month is held unless otherwise specified.

 

Año 85/185 = Año 85, no. 185.

 

(imp.) = incomplete
